    Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

Assistant Clinical Director of Supervision and Operations

My name is Lacey Morris, and I am the Assistant Clinical Director at Family Matters of Marin. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with extensive clinical expertise in trauma treatment, specializing in complex trauma presentations with children, adolescents, and families.

My calling to therapeutic work emerged from personal experience with profound loss when my mother passed from cancer in my early twenties. This experience, combined with my background in expressive arts and teaching life skills to children and adults, led me to understand the powerful intersection of creativity, connection, and healing. I pursued my graduate studies in Counseling and Expressive Arts at JFK University, where I developed my foundation in trauma-informed therapeutic approaches.

Over the past decade, I have built extensive clinical expertise working in high-acuity treatment settings, serving as a lead therapist at premier trauma and addiction treatment centers. My specialized experience includes providing intensive therapy for children facing life-threatening illness and their families, where I developed advanced skills in acute trauma response, family crisis intervention, and supporting children through the most challenging circumstances. This work has given me exceptional ability to navigate complex family dynamics and provide stabilizing therapeutic support during acute trauma situations.

My clinical practice focuses on treating complex PTSD, dissociative disorders, attachment trauma, intergenerational trauma patterns, and grief and loss across all age groups. I have particular expertise working with children and families who have experienced multiple traumas, attachment disruptions, or have been unsuccessful in previous therapeutic attempts. My approach integrates evidence-based modalities including EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), somatic experiencing, and trauma-informed care principles, while incorporating creative and somatic interventions when clinically beneficial.

In my role as Assistant Clinical Director, I provide clinical supervision and mentorship to associate therapists while maintaining my own caseload. I also serve as Adjunct Faculty at Sofia University and University of San Francisco, teaching courses in child therapy, ethics, and psychotherapy theories. This teaching experience has strengthened my clinical assessment abilities and deepened my expertise in case conceptualization across diverse populations.

My therapeutic approach centers on creating secure, attuned relationships where clients can safely process trauma, rebuild healthy attachment patterns, and develop lasting resilience. I am committed to evidence-based treatment while honoring each family’s unique cultural background and healing journey.

Outside of my professional work, I find renewal through time in nature, hiking, yoga, poetry, and meditation. These practices ground me and inform the sense of peace and presence I bring to my work with clients and colleagues.
