Hello! I’m Alyssa Paris, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a rich background in therapy and the healing arts. My journey into this field began in high school, where I first discovered my passion for psychology. Since then, my career has been driven by a deep commitment to helping individuals and families heal and thrive.
I studied liberal arts, languages and psychology as an undergraduate in California and abroad in Bordeaux, France, and completed a graduate counseling program with an emphasis in somatic psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies. These academic experiences laid a strong foundation for my therapeutic practice, integrating both traditional and innovative approaches.
Before I became a therapist, I worked in various roles, including as a youth mentor, tutor, summer camp counselor, translator, graphic designer and creative manager. These diverse experiences have enriched my ability to connect with clients from all walks of life and bring a unique perspective to my therapy sessions.
In my professional journey, I’ve worked extensively with adults, adolescents, and children in private practice and school settings and have honed my skills in supporting individuals with trauma histories and attachment issues. My areas of focus include: PTSD and dissociation, highly sensitive people, anxiety, grief and loss, spirituality and life purpose, body positivity and self esteem, chronic pain and illness, depression, intergenerational trauma, pregnancy and life transitions, parenting, codependency and relationships, aging, NDE, existential OCD, self alienation and women’s issues. My goal is to help clients stabilize, regulate, and heal, creating a space where they can explore and integrate all aspects of themselves.
I approach therapy with a blend of deep listening, intuition, curiosity, and compassion. My training includes SomaticExperiencing®, Hakomi, sandtray, play therapy, and expressive arts, and I will soon incorporate EMDR and sound healing into my practice. I draw inspiration from Jungian and Buddhist psychologies, ecotherapy and parts-work modalities such as IFS, and incorporate the principles of non-violence, mind-body wholeness and respect for the unknown into my clinical work. My therapeutic approach is informed by wisdom traditions, indigenous cultures and the intersections of psychology, spirituality and social justice.
Outside of therapy, I enjoy spending quality time with family and friends, slowing down in nature, practicing yoga, baking, stargazing and engaging in creative pursuits such as poetry, singing, dancing and drumming.
I look forward to the opportunity to work with you.
